With hyaluronic acid-based fillers, there are options to correct or resolve the issue. In this blog, we’ll explain what options you have and what you can expect.

Not satisfied with your filler: Should it be removed right away?
No, not automatically. Immediately after a filler treatment, swelling and tenderness can temporarily make the results look different from the final outcome. It’s therefore a good idea to first have a professional assess exactly what’s causing your dissatisfaction.
Perhaps too much filler was used, or there may be some asymmetry. But sometimes the treated area simply needs time to settle. During a follow-up visit, we’ll first assess the results and discuss what concerns you. Then we can determine which option is best for you.

What can you do if you’re not satisfied with your filler?
Not every situation calls for the same solution. Depending on the outcome and when you come to us, there are various options.

Solve
How does dissolving fillers with hyaluronidase work?
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be broken down using hyaluronidase. This is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid and is injected into the area where the filler needs to be reduced or dissolved.
Hyaluronidase can only be used on fillers that actually consist of hyaluronic acid. That is why we need to know in advance which product was used, where it was injected, and when the treatment took place.
Good to know: Dissolving filler is a customized process. The goal isn’t always to remove all the filler completely. Sometimes, a targeted correction is all that’s needed.
Result
How quickly does hyaluronidase work?
After injection, hyaluronidase begins to break down hyaluronic acid. Sometimes a difference is visible within a few hours, but the treated area still needs time to settle afterward.
The results can usually be better assessed after about 24 to 48 hours. Keep in mind that there may be temporary swelling following the treatment itself.
Is there a lot of filler, or does only a specific area need to be corrected? If so, the process may differ. That’s why we’ll discuss what you can expect in your specific situation during your follow-up appointment.
Retreatment
Can filler be injected again later?
Yes. Dissolving fillers doesn’t mean you can never use them again. It is important, however, to give the treated area enough time to heal first.
Aepril Clinics’ current treatment guidelines generally recommend waiting approximately 2 to 4 weeks before having another filler injection. During a follow-up visit, we assess whether the area has had sufficient time to heal.
A new treatment is also a good time to revisit your original goal. Perhaps you’d like less volume, a different proportion, or a more subtle approach than with your previous treatment.

Yes. You don’t have to have had your original filler treatment at Aepril Clinics to ask us for advice about the results.
We would like to know as much as possible about which product was used previously and when the treatment took place. That information helps the doctor carefully assess your situation.
You don’t need to feel bad about it just because the treatment was performed somewhere else. The point is that we now need to work together to determine what the appropriate next step is.
