The Most Popular Botox Treatment: Why the 3-Zone Approach Is So Popular

Anyone who looks into Botox will quickly come across the term “3-zone Botox.” This usually refers to a treatment that targets multiple areas in the upper part of the face. But what exactly are these zones, and why are they often treated together? In this blog, we’ll explain what a “3-zone Botox” treatment entails and when this approach might be appropriate.

The Zones

Which 3 areas are treated with Botox?

The term “three zones” generally refers to three common areas where expression lines appear:

  1. Frown lines, the vertical lines between the eyebrows
  2. Forehead wrinkles, the horizontal lines on the forehead
  3. Crow’s feet, the fine lines next to the eyes

These wrinkles are caused in part by the fact that we use the same facial muscles over and over again throughout the day. Think of frowning, raising your eyebrows, or smiling.

Balance Sheet

Why are these Botox treatment areas often combined?

The muscles in the upper part of your face do not work independently of one another. When you frown, smile, or raise your eyebrows, different muscles work together.

That’s why, at Aepril Clinics, we don’t just focus on the wrinkle that stands out most to you. We also assess how the different muscles work together and how a treatment affects the balance of your face.

By treating multiple areas in a coordinated manner, a more natural and balanced result can be achieved. The goal is not to eliminate all facial expressions. You still want to recognize yourself when you smile or look surprised.

Three treatment areas do not automatically mean three times the same amount of Botox. The dosage and placement are tailored to each area based on your muscle activity, anatomy, and desired results.

Personal

Do you always need Botox in 3 areas?

No. Just because there is a treatment for three zones doesn’t mean that three zones are the best choice for everyone.

Is your frown line the only thing bothering you? If so, treating just one area may be enough. Are there multiple areas you want to smooth out, and do the muscles affect each other? If so, a combination treatment may make more sense.

During the consultation, we therefore look at the following, among other things:

  • which lines are visible when your face is relaxed;
  • which wrinkles are caused primarily by facial expressions;
  • how strongly your muscles contract;
  • the position and movement of your eyebrows;
  • what result you have in mind.

So the number of zones isn’t the starting point. Your face and your preferences are.

Treatment

What does a 3-zone treatment involve?

Before the procedure, you’ll discuss with the doctor which areas you’d like to treat. The doctor will then observe your facial expressions—for example, by asking you to frown, smile, and raise your eyebrows. This helps identify which muscles are active and where Botox should be injected.

Next, Botox is injected into various points using fine needles. Since multiple areas are treated during the same appointment, you don’t need to schedule three separate treatments.

Result

What can you expect from a 3-zone Botox treatment?

Botox takes time to work. The results therefore appear gradually after treatment.

The treated muscles become temporarily less active, which can soften expression lines and make the upper part of the face appear more relaxed. How noticeable the difference is depends on your initial condition and the dosage chosen.

At Aepril Clinics, our goal isn’t a completely smooth or motionless face, but a result that suits your face.

Costs

Is a 3-zone Botox treatment more cost-effective than three separate treatments?

At Aepril Clinics, a treatment covering three areas is more cost-effective than having the same three areas treated separately.

But the same applies here: don’t choose three zones just because of the price difference. If one or two areas are enough to achieve the result you want, there’s no reason to treat an additional zone.
