A little sweating is normal and healthy. But if your armpits are constantly soaked—even in a cool room, even at rest, and even when you’re not stressed at all—then you likely have hyperhidrosis. And that can significantly impact your daily life in ways that aren’t always visible to others. In this blog, we’ll explain what hyperhidrosis is, what causes it, and what treatment options are available.

Excessive sweating
What exactly is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which the sweat glands are overactive and produce more sweat than the body needs for temperature regulation. It is therefore not normal sweating during exercise or in hot weather, but rather excessive sweating without any apparent cause.
A distinction is made between two forms:
- Primary hyperhidrosis, in which excessive sweating occurs without any apparent medical cause.
- Secondary hyperhidrosis, in which sweating is caused by an underlying condition or the use of certain medications.
A doctor can determine which type of hyperhidrosis you may have.
Treatment
What are the options for excessive sweating?
Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the symptoms. Treatment often begins with a prescription antiperspirant. For some people, this provides sufficient relief.
If the symptoms persist, treatment with Botox may be an effective next step. Botox has been used for many years to reduce excessive sweating and can significantly reduce sweat production for an average of 6 to 12 months.
During a consultation, we’ll discuss which treatment is best suited to your situation.

Excessive sweating and Botox
How does Botox work for hyperhidrosis?
Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals that control the sweat glands. As a result, the treated sweat glands produce significantly less sweat, while the rest of the body can continue to sweat normally.
The treatment is typically used for excessive underarm sweating and takes an average of 30 to 45 minutes. The first signs of improvement are often noticeable within about a week, after which the effect continues to develop.
Safety
Is Botox treatment safe?
Botox has been used in conventional medicine for decades and is also used to treat various medical conditions, including hyperhidrosis.
As with any medical treatment, a consultation always takes place beforehand. During this consultation, we’ll assess your symptoms, discuss any medical history, and determine whether Botox treatment is appropriate for your situation.
